how to cut a circle in a single glazed window?
i have a none electric window vent to put into my bathroom window i need a 4 inch hole in which to fit the vent i have a glass cutter but because the window is already in place i am finding this quite difficult also where could i get a 4 inch template.Any body got any good ideas please
You are destined to break that window! trust me even skilled glaziers have trouble doing this to new glass let alone old glass.The proper tool for this is called a circle arm.Your best bet would be to go to glazier and get a new pane of glass with the hole already cut where you want it.I am not even going to try and tell you how we do this as I fear it is far too dangerous, and a serious cut could ensue.Suffice to say it is not done like you see it in the movies or on the T.V .In fact in 47 years as a glass worker I have seen it done and done it myself thousands of times,NEVER does it come out in one piece.Furthermore if you call a glazier out he will almost certainly tell you that he will try the cut, but it will be entirely at your risk,glass gets more and more brittle as it ages.
